Bollywood Dancing

Today, the students at MPS dressed up in Indian colours and clothing to celebrate and consolidate all of the learning that we have done this semester in Asian Studies. The Grade 1 & 2 students put together an amazing Indian themed assembly that included their own Bollywood music video and at the end of the assembly, all of the students, parents and teachers danced together to the song. Water Safety

This week, the Preps were in charge of running the assembly and our topic was 'Water Safety'. Students at Moreland PS had their first of eight swimming lessons on Wednesday, so the Preps wanted to help everyone be water smart. Below, you will find videos of the performance, our 'Three Little Fishies Book' and our video about water safety. Our Prep Visitors

Last week, we were lucky enough to have some special visitors come to our classroom. Preps from St. Margaret Mary's came to learn about our school, which is part of their inquiry unit for this term. The preps spent an hour together during Developmental Play and the Moreland Preps showed our visitors around, explaining how to use all of our equipment and also teaching them a new song.

Boop Boop Ditem Datem Watem Choo!

We have been learning lots of new songs in Prep this term. Below are the lyrics
 to one of the current favourites. This song was suggested by the children who went
to Moreland Kinder and we are very glad they remembered it because now everyone
loves to sing: "Boop Boop Ditem Datem Watem Choo!"

We made a series of paintings based on the song today and these will soon be
 turned into a home-reader book. Look out for the Three Little Fishies in
 your reader bags!

Inanay Gupu Wana

On the 27th of May, the Preps were in charge of running the school's assembly. Since it is Reconciliation Week, they decided to sing a traditional Indigenous song which has been made into a lullaby. It's called 'Inanay Gupu Wana' and is sung by Lou Bennett, a Yorta Yorta woman. She sings the song (see youtube) with her friends in her band Tiddas. 

The preps had been practicing for weeks and have added their own variations to the song, such as hand gestures and using rocks to keep the beat.
